About Our Organization
Founded February of 2013, we are here to provide a welcoming, safe space — an inclusive home that celebrates, nurtures, and empowers the LGBTQ communities and our friends and neighbors in the Warwick Valley. The LGBTQ Center of the Warwick Valley seeks to build unity among the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Allied people of Warwick and the surrounding areas. It is welcoming of all.
First and foremost we have in place a safe environment that lets the LGBTQ people of our area know they are not alone. By doing that we lower the depression level of the LGBTQ community and their friends and family. We have no words that can express the need for such a place in our lives.
Second, we are working to build a safer community with our Safe Space Initiative. We have asked the local Government Buildings and Businesses to but up safe space stickers. Showing they will not tolerate bulling of the LGBTQ people who come into their buildings. We have seen positive change in the towns that have participated so far.
We are look to build our membership and provide more programs to our community. Programs such as more group outings and social clubs for the purpose of support and solidarity. Hosting such groups as Parents, Friends, of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and Gay, Straight Alliance (GSA). We would like to build a bridge between the surrounding communities to facilitate and educate tolerance and respect. Making all of our community a safe and healthy place to live and play.
We are looking for board members please email us if you interested in helping.
